Surge Scientific · Model MultiEX 096P · 96-Throughput Compact Nucleic Acid Extractor
Nucleic Acid Extractor
96-Throughput · Compact Footprint · 10-inch Touchscreen
1–96 Samples / Run · Full 96-Well Plate · 10-inch Touchscreen · UV Disinfection · Filtered Ventilation · Auto-Check · USB Program Import/Export · Max 10 Hz Stirring
The MultiEX 096P is the next-generation full-plate extractor in the MultiEX series — replacing the original MultiEX 096 with an improved compact footprint that recovers bench space without compromising throughput. Process all 96 samples in a single run, programmed and monitored on a 10-inch color touchscreen, with built-in UV disinfection, contamination-free filtered ventilation, and USB-based program import/export for protocol portability across the lab. Auto-check verifies plate, rod, and sleeve positioning before every run — and the closed system with automatic safety door keeps aerosols inside the chamber where they belong.
Why Full-Plate Throughput Is the Throughput That Matters
In molecular diagnostic labs, the 96-well plate is the unit of work. PCR plates, qPCR reactions, sequencing libraries — every downstream technique runs on 96. So when your extractor runs 16 or 32 samples per batch, you're splitting one downstream plate into multiple upstream extractions — three or six separate runs to fill one PCR plate. That's three or six setup steps, three or six chances for variability, and a multiplier on bench time that adds up across a shift.
Full-plate extraction matches the unit of downstream work to the unit of upstream extraction. One plate in, one plate out, every sample processed under identical conditions. No batch-to-batch drift, no separate setup cycles, no half-empty plates eating reagent costs. The MultiEX 096P does this in a footprint smaller than its predecessor — so high-throughput diagnostic labs can deploy two or three units across the same bench space they used for one MultiEX 096.
For decades, nucleic acid purification meant silica spin columns and centrifuges — pipette, centrifuge, transfer, repeat. It works, but it's slow, manual, and expensive in tech-time per sample. Worse, every transfer step is a chance for contamination, sample loss, or operator error. For a lab processing more than a few samples a day, the column workflow is the bottleneck.
Magnetic-bead extraction flipped the model. Magnetic beads coated with silica or specific affinity ligands bind nucleic acids in solution. A magnet pulls the beads (with bound nucleic acid) to the side of the well; the rest of the sample is washed away. Elution releases the purified nucleic acid in a small volume. No centrifuges. No transfer steps. No spin columns. Done in parallel, fully automated, with recovery rates of 95%+ and inter-well CVs typically below 3% — directly comparable to gold-standard column purification, but at a fraction of the hands-on time.
The MultiEX series automates the entire process: load the prepped 96-well plate, set the protocol on the touchscreen, walk away. The machine handles bead capture, washes, elution, and final dispense into a fresh plate ready for downstream analysis (PCR, qPCR, NGS, sequencing). UV disinfection between runs eliminates cross-contamination. Multi-temperature heating modules handle lysis and elution at the precise temperatures that maximize yield without nucleic acid degradation.
96-Sample Full-Plate Throughput
Process 1–96 samples per run across the full 96-well plate. Match the downstream PCR/qPCR/NGS plate format upstream — one extraction = one downstream plate.
Compact Upgraded Footprint
Smaller than the original MultiEX 096 — recovers bench space without sacrificing capacity. Deploy multiple units in the same lab footprint for parallel high-throughput workflows.
10-inch Touchscreen + USB
10-inch color touchscreen for protocol design, real-time monitoring, and run review. USB import/export of programs — develop a protocol on one unit, deploy it across every MultiEX in the lab.
Closed System · UV · Filtered Ventilation
Built-in UV lamp (auto-off after disinfection) + filtered ventilation system + automatic safety door = closed-system extraction with zero aerosol escape and zero cross-contamination between runs.
"96 samples in. 96 results out. One plate, one extraction, one downstream PCR — the way high-throughput molecular diagnostics is supposed to work." — The MultiEX 096P matches the unit of downstream work to the unit of extraction, in a footprint compact enough to deploy in parallel.
