The OptimaFlex with PCR96GX2 2×48-Well Blocks is the dual-protocol parallel format of the OptimaFlex modular thermal cycler family. Two independent 48-well blocks — each running its own protocol, gradient, and heated lid simultaneously. Two researchers can run different PCR experiments at the same time, each on one half of the chassis, without protocol-conflict scheduling. Or one researcher can run gradient optimization on one block while running production protocols on the other — turning paired-experiment workflows from a sequential bottleneck into a parallel pipeline. Each block has its own programmable gradient and adaptive heated lid for 0.2 mL PCR tubes. Driven by Peltier elements, monitored on a 10.1-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen, with automatic power failure recovery for both blocks independently.
Why Two Parallel Independent Protocols Beats One Twice-the-Wait Protocol
PCR thermal cycler scheduling is the hidden bottleneck in most multi-user molecular biology labs. Two researchers, one cycler, conflicting protocols = one of them waits 2 hours. Multi-week projects accumulate this scheduling overhead until thermal cycler access becomes the rate-limiting step in shared-equipment labs. The cheap solution — buy a second cycler — costs $4000-8000 and consumes another bench-meter of space.
The PCR96GX2 2×48-Well configuration solves the scheduling problem at the architecture level. Two researchers run two different protocols simultaneously, each on their own 48-well block, each with their own gradient temperature, denaturation profile, and cycle count. The two blocks share the chassis, the touchscreen, the Peltier control electronics — but the protocols run truly independently. One researcher can be running a 35-cycle qPCR setup at one annealing temperature while the other runs a 25-cycle restriction enzyme digestion at a completely different profile. Or one researcher can run gradient optimization on Block 1 while the optimized protocol runs production on Block 2 — turning what would be a 4-hour sequential workflow into a 2-hour parallel one. The 2×48-well configuration is the multi-user lab's productivity unlock.
2×48-Well Independent Blocks
Two 48-well thermal blocks running independently. Each block has its own protocol, gradient, and heated lid. Two researchers, two protocols, one footprint — eliminates thermal cycler scheduling conflicts.
Programmable Gradient
Programmable gradient temperature across the block for primer optimization. Adaptive heated lid auto-adjusts for 0.2 mL PCR tubes — optimal sealing without manual lid adjustment between runs.
10.1-inch Touchscreen
10.1-inch high-resolution LCD touchscreen for intuitive multi-block monitoring and protocol setup. Visual real-time temperature display for each block with cycle-progress indicators.
Power Failure Recovery
Automatic power failure recovery — when power restores after an outage, the OptimaFlex resumes interrupted protocols at the exact cycle and temperature where they stopped. No lost runs.
"Two independent PCR protocols running in parallel. Two researchers share one cycler footprint. The 2×48-well configuration that eliminates thermal cycler scheduling conflicts in multi-user labs."

Ideal Applications
Multi-User Lab Productivity
Shared-equipment molecular biology labs where 2+ researchers need PCR access daily — the 2×48-well format means two protocols run truly in parallel, eliminating the scheduling conflicts that bottleneck multi-user benches.
Paired Optimization + Production
Run gradient optimization on one block while running the optimized production protocol on the other — turning sequential 4-hour optimization → production workflows into parallel 2-hour pipelines.
Method Development
Method development workflows comparing two protocol variants side-by-side, paired sample runs, control + experimental groups — applications where two parallel independent thermal protocols are the workflow standard.
Block Selection Guide
The OptimaFlex platform offers three interchangeable block configurations. Best for: multi-user labs and paired-protocol workflows. Pick this block when two researchers need parallel PCR access, or when your workflow benefits from running gradient + production simultaneously. If your workflow needs change later, the OptimaFlex chassis accepts any of the other two configurations as a swap-in upgrade — no need to purchase a second thermal cycler.
What's in the Box
The OptimaFlex with 2×48-Well Blocks ships configured to the PCR96GX2 block layout. Additional block configurations available separately for swap-as-needed flexibility.
