Why PID Control + Dual Heating Defines Embedding Block Quality
The temperature uniformity of your wax dispenser determines the consistency of your embedding blocks. Embedding paraffin needs to be at a precise melting state — typically 56–60°C, depending on the wax grade — with uniform temperature across the reservoir. If the wax near the heating element is 65°C while the wax at the surface is 54°C, you get thermal stratification: the histotech draws hotter wax for one block and cooler wax for the next, and the resulting blocks have different hardness, different sectioning behavior on the microtome, and different ribbon quality.
